YouTube on Your Tube
Popular digital video recording (DVR) service Tivo announced this week that it would be teaming up with YouTube to bring the video-sharing website's content to Tivo subscriber televisions. The deal would allow broadband connected homes to log into their Tivo accounts through their televisions, accessing the site's various channels and popular videos. An analyst at the Wall Street Journal notes that this may be a part of Tivo's efforts to distinguish itself in light of new competition from similar recording devices offered by cable and satellite providers.
The deal is a part of YouTube's recently launched developer API's, which allow outside entities to create applications using Tivo. Other examples include Electronic Arts, which is allowing users to upload clips of their personal gaming characters to the site. The University of California at Berkely is also using the API to populate video of class lectures directly to YouTube.
