David Parmet Joins the Media Bullseye Roundtable

This week we were delighted to welcome PR pro and SNCR fellow David Parmet to the Media Bullseye Weekly Radio roundtable. We had a host of interesting topics to cover this week, and it was terrific to have someone with David's experience throw in his two-cents.

We began with a discussion on blogger and new author Rohit Barghava's book, "Personality Not Included." Rohit has been creatively promoting the book in PR and marketing blogging circles, calling for interviews on his blog and conducting 55 of them in total. We all agree that his approach was not only creative, but will likely result in an increase in buzz. David also mentions that Rohit did the extra legwork at South by Southwest this year, using the conference as an opportunity to approach even more bloggers on an in person level and get the word out.

The discussion then turns to the PR issues surrounding the upcoming summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. China has been faced with plenty of criticism in regards to its treatment of protestors in Tibet attempting to use the games to shine a light on the human rights situation in the region. All of the panelists agree that this is a dicey situation, with David arguing that PR should have nothing to do with it when human rights are at stake, but Jen and I admitting that when business interests are involved, occasionally what's morally right is not always at the top of the agenda.

The show winds down on a lighter note, as the panel discusses the many April Fool's pranks taking place online this week, and whether such silliness in any way diminishes the credibility of social media. Jen argues that while a joke is in good fun, it may affect how others view your brand, while David claims that people working in this space are genearlly hard-working people who deserve a day to have a little fun.
