Fourth Largest Social Network Sold

CommunityConnect, home to more than 20 million social network users, has been sold to Radio One. Connect has become successful through marketing niche networks like MiGente and AsianAvenue, but BlackPlanet has been its greatest success as the nation’s fourth largest social network.

Rafat Ali suggests that Radio One is a “non-obvious” buyer, but does market to the African American community through interests in radio, magazines, and television. But to Nicholas Carlson the question is not why, but why was the price tag so low? The $38 million sale price, Carlson insists, seems far too low considering the going rate seemingly established by Bebo.
