Spike Lee Announces "Democratization of Film"
Spike Lee and Nokia announced today they would collaborating on a film project using cell phone camera coverage compiled from average users. The film will be produced by Nokia, and will consist of three parts, with an "assignment" released online and users given 4 weeks to gather their footage.
"You are seeing first hand the democratization of film," Lee said in a statement on Thursday. "Aspiring filmmakers no longer have to go to film school to make great work. With a simple mobile phone, almost anyone can now become a filmmaker."
Lee will direct the film through the official website, and users will vote one a winner after a top 25 submissions are selected.
