MySpace Wins $234 Million Spam Settlement

A California court has ordered two spammers to pay MySpace $234 million dollars in what is being called the largest CAN-SPAM ruling since the law was enacted 15 years ago. Sanford Wallace and Walter Rines were able to convince many that their spam could be trusted by sending messages from fake or hijacked MySpace accounts. In total, the pair sent nearly 800,000 unwelcome notices to MySpace users.

MySpace is celebrating the victory, but observers note that their chances of collecting the impressive sum may be slim.  The defendants failed to show up in court, and tracking them down, along with any assets, will be a difficult chore.
