First Android Phone Released

After months of speculation, a joint announcement from Google, T-Mobile, and HTC today revealed the first Android-based phone. The "G1" uses that open source Android platform spearheaded by Google, and its design is quickly drawing comparisons to Apple's iPhone.

Unlike the iPhone, this new handset features a full keyboard and is stocked with a wide range of Google applications.  One early criticism is that the design does not match some of the more popular phones already on the market. "G1" is also not yet compatible with Microsoft Exchange. The phone is expected to be launched on October 22 with a price tag of $179. Head over to engadget for photos and more details.
