Mitch Joel over at Twist Image has a terrific
piece that lays out how to get more involved in the marketing community. He
starts by pointing out that "The only
way you're really going to grow your business, get your next big promotion or
land that perfect marketing job is by taking an active role in growing your
marketing community." He then lists six ways to become more active: volunteering, becoming a paid member,
attending events, plug into the community, create content for a group, and become
a leader. Under each heading, he provides concrete reasons for doing so.

tool from Google, Steve Rubel examines an interesting aspect of the announcement.
Philipp Lenssen blogs from Germany, which had mail delivery on Monday. The U.S.
did not. Lenssen got a one day jump on a
story quite possibly because his mail was delivered--something to consider for
any communicator who is working with clients who wish to embargo a story for a
big launch.
