Social Media Collider - Julia Roy Joins the Roundtable

Welcome to another episode of Media Bullseye's Radio Roundtable. Our special guest this week is Julia Roy. Julia is a Senior Agent at Undercurrent, a digital think tank in New York City, helping brands and agencies understand and engage more effectively with a growing population of digital natives. Before that, Julia was at Schneider Associates, where she started the agency's first social media practice, and she blogs at JuliaRoy.com.

She joins us this week to discuss a Yammer, the new collaborative microblogging service; the mega-collider and Internet rumors vs. authority; and the Jerry Seinfeld Microsoft marketing push.

Yammer: We start out discussing Yammer, the latest microblogging Twitter imitator, this time with a twist. Yammer provides closed microblogging for companies, and could become an excellent tool for internal communications. We discuss how companies big and small could put this tool to use for them, and how internal communications are a vital and often-overlooked area of public relations.

Mega-Collider vs Web Authority: This article on the BBC prompted our discussion on web authority. With conspiracy theorists working overtime to try and claim that the CERN Hadron Collider will eventually suck the world into a black hole (Julia's question, will we have time to Tweet our goodbyes?), one scientist is trying to find a way to ensure that web rumors are not simply accepted as fact.

Seinfeld and Gates, Mac and PC?: In an apparent effort to get into the "hip ad campaign" market so long dominated by competitor Apple, MIcrosoft has recently launched ads starring Jerry Seinfeld. We all agree that the ads are odd and hard to understand, and Jen laments that Jerry is taking his curtain call too soon, the ads did not have enough time to find their feet before meeting rampant criticism.
