GM’s Fast Lane Blog— The first topic up for discussion is GM’s Fast Lane Blog. With the auto industry on the brink of collapse, is maintaining a blog fiddling while Rome burns, or has GM’s blog become an indispensable source of information (and a forum for public catharsis)? What can other companies learn from how GM is using this blog and other company-launched social media initiatives?

Is Social Media Killing PR? — A recent panel held in New York with this title has generated some discussion on PR and marketing blogs. CNet’s Charles Cooper had a different take than most who have written on the topic, as he argues not only has social media not killed PR, too many communicators have “drunk the kool-aid” and are over-emphasizing both the role and the impact of social media.

Personal Branding-Legit or Lame? — Geoff Livingston has been on a tear recently about the term and motivations behind “personal branding.” The panel discusses the value and pitfalls of creating and maintaining a personal brand, whether it is Microsoft’s Scoble or an employee at an agency.
